A review of Flixter
(The movie site review section was written by my friend Diana. She has a great up and coming social media blog at ustandout.com.)
Site: Flixter
![]()
Members: ?????
Features: Flixter offers the benefits of a Netflix-like community without having to subscribe. It’s a social movie site that lets users rate movies, discover new movies, and share their reviews with friends. Flixter has social media applications on Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, and Orkut, and apps on iPhone and iGoogle.
On Flixter, it’s easy to find your friends by entering your email address and password, and seeing who on your mailing list is already on Flixter. If you don’t have any friends on Flixter, you can find people like you in the Flixter network to get recommendations and compare reviews. There are forums, wikis, and even “Flixter IM” that is powered by Meebo, and definitely resembles the chat feature on Facebook. You can also take quizzes, create quizzes, watch movie clips, and sort through photos.
Review: Flixter is more fun than other movie social networks. It’s easy to quickly rate many movies on a 5-star scale at once, and is really accurate with recommended movies and people with similar film tastes. The quizzes are extremely addictive, especially if you have the Facebook application and can compete with your Facebook friends. The forums are very active, and people are eager to compare movie tastes and take the quizzes you create, so Flixter has a great community feel.
