A review of theBoaters

Site: theboaters

theboaters

Members: ???

Features: TheBoaters allows users to sign up using either traditional methods, Facebook (which they have an application for), or through OpenID. Out of 100 niche social networking sites that I have reviewed so far this is the first to offer up these options. (I know there are others out there but this is the first one that I have actually reviewed.)
The feature set allows users to add their favorite boats (even apparitional), upload photos of their boats, add places, check for events, and add friends. You can update your friends to what you are doing ala Facebook and there is an activity feed to follow.

There is a forum where people can connect and share information; there is a good amount of activity on there. Other features include a boating news video network and a complete the caption game.

Review: This site is visually and functionally amazing. Just a great job all around and this is one of the better sites that I have reviewed so far. The only issue I had as a first time visitor there are a few abbreviations on the menu and a few icons that when you hover over they don’t tell you what they are. This really only impacts first time users and it is a small thing but something that I noticed.

The community is active, the feature set is good, and the site looks like it is growing. Pretty much everything you want in a social community.
