Review of Opensourcefood

By: Kevin Palmer on 11/02/2008

Site: Opensourcefood

Members: Over 5,000

Features: Opensource food allows people to upload recipes and share them. You can vote up recipes, add them to your profile, and friend people that you want to follow.

There are standard profile features and the ability to comment on various recipes. Also the recipes have a large photo with it, which really is what stands out on this site.

All the recipes are shared under the creative commons licensing, which I think is a great touch and respectful to the users who are uploading.

Review: I really like Opensource food. While it lacks in the features department it has a really good look to it. The pictures are something that really draws you in to the recipes which are easy to follow and find. One feature I think would be good would be a print recipe function that allows you to just print the recipe as opposed to the entire page.

The navigation is simple and the layout is easy to use. Just a simple, clean, and great site to use, so far one of my favorite niche sites that I have reviewed so far. Since it just launched earlier in the year it still has a small user base but I can see this growing to a 25,000-30,000 quickly.
